The Care and Feeding of Your New Silicone Dildo
Those in the know have been singing the praises of silicone for years. Treated right, it will last for years. At Toys of Eros and Wild Hearts, we give our customers a lifetime guarantee on every silicone dildos we sell!
Cleaning Your Silicone Dildo
While soap and water cleans your dildo completely, if someone or something weird gets a hold of your silicone dildo, you may want to give it a more a thorough cleaning. You can do this by boiling it for up to 3 minutes, placing it in the top rack of your dishwasher, cleaning it with a mixture of bleach and water, or rubbing your silicone toy with alcohol.
Sharing Your Dildo
If you are sharing your dildo in the same sex session, and don’t want to stop and get out of bed to wash it, use a good sex toy cleaner. Simply squirt it on the dildo, rub it in and you’re ready to go. (Be careful about the sex toy cleaner you use. )
Silicone is Hypo-allergenic
Silicone is non- porous, so it will not hold bacteria, smell, etc... It cleans up thoroughly and safely with plain soap and water. Almost all other sex toy materials, jelly, rubber etc., will hold bacteria.
Silicone is Indestructible
Your silicone toy will never tear during normal use. The only way it will develop a tear is from something sharp, like teeth. (For some reason, dogs and cats adore silicone.) But with the exception of your pet stealing your dildo and chewing it up, or an ex-lover cutting it in half with a knife, your silicone dildo is almost indestructible.
Lubricant For Your Dildo
The other common damage to silicone sex toys comes from silicone-based lubes. Certain silicone based lubes will sometimes bond with the silicone in a dildo, damaging the surface of the toy. However, there are two brands of silicone lube that will not react with your silicone toy. Ask us which lubes are safe. The reason to use a silicone lube in the first place, is because it is divinely slippery, and feels 10 times better than water based lubes.
Vibrating Silicone Dildos
The vibrating bullet will have a small plastic disc in between the batteries and the vibrator to prevent it from going off in shipment. Unscrew the bullet vibrator and remove this small plastic disc. Also, before you place the vibe inside the dildo, squirt lube in the hole so you can easily remove the vibrator. Remove the vibrator if you are going to submerge it in water. Buy some extra batteries so you have them on hand.
The New Super Soft Dildos
There is a new type of silicone dildo recently introduced into the world of dildos. It is a very soft and very realistic silicone. Some of the brand names are Softskin, and Vixskin. It is not Cyberskin, which is a rubber product that will hold bacteria.
Out of the box, a soft skin silicone dildo can feel a little sticky. If you powder a soft skin dildo, it makes it unbelievably silky to the touch. Powder it only with corn starch . (Talc is no longer deemed healthy to use on any part of your body. Powder the dildo if you are going to use it for foreplay, and want your partner to experience the feel of this silky dildo all over her body.
But, if you are going straight for the goodies, use lube. The silky sensation you achieve with the powder will not be felt inside the vagina or anus. We have many nerve endings on the outside of our vagina and anus, but very few on the inside. With lube we still feel the softness of the silicone but the silkiness is lost on our vagina anyway.
